Pond No. 731 in Gaorong, Yangmei District, Taoyuan City is owned by the Taiwan Water Corporation. Research results show that the pond has endangered plants such as Nymphoides aurantiaca (a kind of yellow flowers) and loosestrifes. A substantial, stable number of Taipei Grass Frog scattered in the remaining wetlands in Taipei, Taoyuan, Tainan, and Pingtung can also be found in the pond. This is why the city government designated the pond to be the Taoyuan Gaorong Wildlife Refuge on March 3, 2012 in protection of Pond No. 731 and its surrounding swamps. The refuge is used as an outdoor ecological learning classroom in Taoyuan for demonstration purposes.
