Namasia Village is situated in the mid-upper stream of Nanzixian River. Local aboriginal people from Tsou and Bunun tribes initiated ecological conservation of rivers in the early days, which subsequently received support from Council of Agriculture and other relevant agencies.

Onychostoma barbatulum is an advantaged species in this area and seconded by Acrossocheilus paradoxus (Taiwan Striped Barb). Ministry of Agriculture has announced Varicorhinus alticorpus and Sinogastromyzon puliensis as first degree critically endangered preserved wildlife. Nanzixian River endured severe losses of various species because of damage to the ongoing reconstruction of river bed dredge by landslide during Typhoon Morakot. Although Onychostoma barbatulum was almost extinguished upon the completion of reconstruction, Varicorhinus alticorpus recovered well. Although debris from landslide piled up causing the river current speed to increase, this benefited the existence of Hemimyzon formosanus.
